Enjoyed time, stories with shipmates
Lt. Edven W. Anderson, 89, died Dec. 21 in Pascagoula, Miss. at Singing
Rivers Hospital from a stroke. He was attending a Navy reunion for the
U.S.S. Sigsbee DD502.
Anderson was born Sept. 4, 1913 in Dallas, S.D. to Hilding and Mary
(Christinsen) Anderson. He graduated from St. Edward High School in St.
Edward, Neb. He then enlisted in the United States Navy in 1934. He met and
married Mary Jane (Grady) on Dec. 28, 1942 in Latonia, Ky. The couple lived
in numerous places while he served in the U.S. Navy. He retired from the
Navy in 1957 at San Diego, Calif.
Anderson lived in South Bend for nine years and in May 2002 moved back to
the land his father bought in 1941 in Gig Harbor with his daughter. He was a
member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Raymond and was a lifetime member
of the VFW.
He is survived by his daughter Andrea; son Randy; granddaughter and two
great-granddaughters.
Anderson was buried Dec. 28 beside his wife at Menlo Cemetery with full
military honors.

Webmaster's note:Edven W. Anderson, CQM (AA) reported aboard the USS Sigsbee March 21, 1943 at the Brooklyn Navy Yard, NY. He was appointed Ensign August 20 , 1944 and detached from the USS Sigsbee August 21, 1944, at Espirito Santos, New Hebrides Islands.
