GEORGE
Wesley E. George,
Jr., 87, of Brushy Mountain
Road,
Moravian Falls, NC died Tuesday, July 29,
2008, at his home.
He was born
April 24,
1921, in
Pittsburgh, PA., the son of the late Wesley
Edward George, Sr., and Lillie Boden George. He was a Navy veteran of World War
II. He survived a Kamikaze attack that nearly sunk his ship, the USS Sigsbee,
off Okinawa and finished his service with
distinction. Recently, he was honored by the Navy by being invited and attending
the Christening of his Captain’s namesake ship, USS Chung-Hoon DDG 93, in Pascagoula, MS. He also was invited and
attended the Commissioning of that same ship in Pearl
Harbor. During the Commissioning, he
attended lunch onboard the ship and a ceremonial cruise around the
island of Oahu. He was a member of the Civic
Light Opera in Pittsburgh, PA., and was a member of
the Wilkesboro Methodist Church. He also served as a soloist
tenor in multiple church choirs.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded
in death by two sisters, Lillie George and Eva George Fisher.
Survivors
include his wife of 60 years, Elberta Himes George of the home; one daughter,
Kathleen Faye Lackey of Moravian Falls; one son, Wesley Edward George, III, of
Ridgeway, VA.; one sister, Grace George Martin of FL.; five grandchildren; and
one great-grandchild.
Memorial services were conducted Saturday, August
2, 2008, at First United Methodist Church in Martinsville, VA.

He was transferred July 7, 1945 to the nearest west coast RS for further transfer to Sonar School San Diego, CA
