POHL 
A. J. Pohl, 80, of Scottsdale, AZ, passed away March 6, 2005. Born (April 19, 1924) in Erie, PA, he was in technical support for visual aids for the Erie School District. He entered the U.S. Navy at age 17 during WWII and was a member of the American Legion Post 44 in Scottsdale. Survivors include his wife, Dr. Clara August Pohl, children, Stephen Pohl, Timothy (Linda) Pohl, Sandra (James) Foster, Michael (Colleen) Pohl and Connie (Mark)Kraus, sister Marie Wood, sister-in-law Mary Pohl, five grand children, one great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Ann Winukowski (Dugan), brother Joseph Pohl and a granddaughter Sarah Foster. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling and golf. Private services will be held at the National Memorial Cemetery, Phoenix, AZ. Arrangements by Messinger Indian School Mortuary.

Webmaster's Notes: Alois Joseph Pohl enlisted in the US Navy April 23, 1941 at Erie, PA, service number 234 34 08. He was received aboard the Destroyer USS Sigsbee DD-502 September 13, 1943 at Pearl Harbor TH, as S2c. After 22 months service aboard the USS Sigsbee Alois J. Pohl GM3c was transferred July 27, 1945 to ComDesPac for assignment at Pearl Harbor, TH. Al Phol was a personal friend of mine aboard the USS Sigsbee and we enjoyed many DD-502 reunions together over the years. He will be sorely missed by Sigsbee veterans and friends. Our thoughts and prayers go out for Clara and the family.
