THURBER    

Billy; My dad, Robert D. Thurber, served on the USS Sigsbee DD-502 during W.W.II. He passed away 6/13/1968 of coronary arrest. I have 2 son’s in the Navy one is on the Pellilu LHA 5 he is a ABH2 the other is on the Decatur DDG 73 he is a BM1c. I was in the USMC 1964-1968.

Webmaster Notes: Robert Duane Thurber enlisted in the US Navy August 5, 1942, at Chicago, IL. He reported aboard the DD-502 January 23, 1943, as S2c, at the Brooklyn Navy Yard, NY. Service number 611 84 41. After serving one year eleven months and nineteen days on the USS Sigsbee, Robert D. Thurber, EM3c, was transferred January 10, 1945, at San Diego, CA. for further transfer to Electrician Mates Class Center at Receiving Station San Francisco, CA.
